About Ireland Up Close

Robert Ardill and Cathy Ardill are landscape photographers based in Slane, County Meath, beside the River Boyne. Robert is also a painter; Cathy is a graphic designer. They have photographed landscapes across Europe and in recent years have focused on the Irish countryside.

They are drawn to the subtlety of Irish scenery and the changing light: mists, clouds, and bursts of sunlight through the seasons. Dawn and dusk are a particular interest. Living in the Boyne Valley, they work close to Newgrange, Dowth, Knowth, the Hill of Slane, and the wider Meath landscape that appears throughout their Newgrange photographs on this page.
