An exhibition of paintings by Jane Brideson

Jane Brideson, artist

Jane Brideson is an artist whose work draws deeply from Ireland’s mythological traditions, sacred landscapes and ancient folklore. Her paintings bring together archaeology, mythology and spirituality, exploring the enduring presence of Ireland’s gods, goddesses and legendary figures within the landscape itself.

One of Brideson’s best-known themes is The Ever-Living Ones, inspired by Irish gods in landscape, myth and custom. Rather than treating mythology as distant legend, her paintings often place these figures within the Irish landscape, linking rivers, hills, sacred wells and ancient monuments with the stories associated with them.

Ancient sites such as Newgrange and other sacred landscapes of Ireland feature strongly within her work. Symbols, seasonal cycles and the relationship between people and place are recurring themes. Her paintings invite viewers to look beyond the physical landscape and see places layered with memory, tradition and mythological meaning.

Through colour, symbolism and imagination, Jane Brideson’s artwork creates a connection between ancient Irish belief and modern artistic expression, presenting the landscape as something alive with story and enduring cultural memory.
